Backup iPhone and iPod

Backing up and iPhone or iPod is probably the easiest thing on a smartphone. Apple allows users to backup their iOS device either by using iCloud or using iTunes on a PC or Mac. It is essential to reserve your smartphone just before the update, so in case something goes wrong, you will have all your data saved with Apple.

iCloud backup

Apple iCloud backup service is the easiest method and iOS devices keep taking backups on definite intervals. However, in this case, we have to trigger the backup manually.

1. Head to Settings app
2. Tap on your name

3. Choose the iCloud option and tap on iCloud backup

4. Hit the Back up now button

Note:- Do check your internet connectivity and make sure the device has a minimum 50% charge left in it. Preferably, plug-in the device to a power socket during the backup process.

Taking a backup using iTunes requires either a Mac computer or a Windows machine with iTunes installed in it along with the lightning USB cable.

1. Unlock the device and connect the iPhone/iPod to the PC or Mac
2. Now open iTunes and click on the small thumbnail places besides the Music dropdown
3. Now click on the Backup section from the left
4. Choose the option iCloud and check the Encrypt iPhone backup box to add extra security
5. It will then ask for the encryption password
6. Now, click on backup Now button and wait for the process to complete
7. Once you are done installing iOS 13, choose the iTunes option at the backup screen, connect the phone and restore.

In addition to taking backup, there are few other things that one should take care of before the update. Make sure to connect the device with a good internet connection. Also, check for the available storage on your device. In addition to this, removing some of the unused apps might speed up the backup and installation process.
